Finding Treasure in Unexpected Places

Today I have been Sorting Out The Wardrobe. It's a job I find very satisfying, and doubtless so do the local charity shops! However, today I decided to take a look through some of the handbags which lurk in the back of the top cupboard; many of which have not seen the light of day for quite some time... I came across one which seemed to me needed a new home - it's very beautiful, but somehow is always overlooked in favour of another, so I decided it was time to set it free from the confines of the wardrobe. When I looked inside, amongst several lipsticks and no fewer than three packets of tissues, I found a folded piece of paper on which was written the following quote by Emerson:

"Give all to love. Obey thy heart; tis a brave master. Let it have scope - follow it utterly."

I have no idea how or when it came to be there, but, like the handbag, it was obviously time for it to come out of the cupboard.

We are all in this together...

We are all in The People Business; we are all working to improve the quality of life for somebody else. Sometimes it is possible to forget that our own quality of life is equally important.

The state of our life is a reflection of our state of mind. When you start to pay attention to your body signals - stress, tension, negativity and so on - you can become aware of what you are doing to yourself and notice if you are behaving or reacting in a way that's not good for you. Anger, bitterness and other negative emotions keep emotional wounds from healing and will block us from achieving what we want in life. When we live with that negativity, that is effectively what we end up giving away to other people and we find that it intensifies within us, leading to further stress and even physical illness.

What we choose to focus on and pay attention to in our lives is what will expand for us - so why not get into the habit of imagining things working out well in our lives? Pay attention and enjoy each moment - with practise we can develop the ability to enjoy even the boring and routine things, like a delay at the airport. We can also develop an ability not to judge others. After all, we don't define others by our judgements; we define ourselves as someone who needs to judge.
