A New Venue

The last few months have seen new venues all round; a new dental practice in Scarborough, followed by a new house and also a new therapy consultation room. We are now also very excited to have found a stunning new venue for seminars and courses, right on our new doorstep; Wydale Hall near Brompton by Sawdon is a wonderfully peaceful spot and I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people on the two Self-Hypnosis courses I have arranged for this September. (More details of those on the website.)

Finding Treasure in Unexpected Places

Today I have been Sorting Out The Wardrobe. It's a job I find very satisfying, and doubtless so do the local charity shops! However, today I decided to take a look through some of the handbags which lurk in the back of the top cupboard; many of which have not seen the light of day for quite some time... I came across one which seemed to me needed a new home - it's very beautiful, but somehow is always overlooked in favour of another, so I decided it was time to set it free from the confines of the wardrobe. When I looked inside, amongst several lipsticks and no fewer than three packets of tissues, I found a folded piece of paper on which was written the following quote by Emerson:

"Give all to love. Obey thy heart; tis a brave master. Let it have scope - follow it utterly."

I have no idea how or when it came to be there, but, like the handbag, it was obviously time for it to come out of the cupboard.

We are all in this together...

We are all in The People Business; we are all working to improve the quality of life for somebody else. Sometimes it is possible to forget that our own quality of life is equally important.

The state of our life is a reflection of our state of mind. When you start to pay attention to your body signals - stress, tension, negativity and so on - you can become aware of what you are doing to yourself and notice if you are behaving or reacting in a way that's not good for you. Anger, bitterness and other negative emotions keep emotional wounds from healing and will block us from achieving what we want in life. When we live with that negativity, that is effectively what we end up giving away to other people and we find that it intensifies within us, leading to further stress and even physical illness.

What we choose to focus on and pay attention to in our lives is what will expand for us - so why not get into the habit of imagining things working out well in our lives? Pay attention and enjoy each moment - with practise we can develop the ability to enjoy even the boring and routine things, like a delay at the airport. We can also develop an ability not to judge others. After all, we don't define others by our judgements; we define ourselves as someone who needs to judge.

How to Regain Your Life Balance in 15 Minutes

The technique of self-hypnosis can help you to regain your life balance, using as little as 15 minutes a day.
Hypnosis allows the use of a deeply relaxing state in order that change can take place at the unconscious level; the power of hypnosis lies in the connection that is built with the unconscious mind.

Being able to use self-hypnosis can provide unmeasurable benefits, both physically and emotionally, and can help in achieving goals that otherwise might appear too difficult, or even impossible. Self-hypnosis is a way to connect with your own potentiality, your own infinite possibilities and your own creativity.

Clinical Hypnotherapist Joanna Taylor is running introductory courses in self-hypnosis at her Consultancy Offices in Pickering, North Yorkshire. See the website at http://www.joanna-taylor.co.uk/ for more details, and you can also request a free relaxation CD.

Cause and Effect

For everything that happens, there is a cause. Where you are in life at this moment is the effect of all the things that have happened to you in the past; all the decisions you made have caused you to become the person you are today. Anybody can turn their life around; there is nothing more flexible than the human spirit. Your life is your own creation; the decisions you make today will be the cause of where you are in life five, ten or twenty years from now.

Spread a Little Happiness...

Have you ever tried committing random acts of kindness? When somebody lets you out at a junction, how does it make you feel? More likely to let somebody else pull out? Absolutely! However small, these acts of kindness have a huge, incalculable ripple effect. And, of course, the person doing the kind act also feels good - so it's a complete win-win situation! What if we all deliberately set out to commit at least one random act of kindness every day... how much difference do you think that will make to yourself and to others? And what if we did two....?

"Be kind - because wherever you go, there you are."
